My husband and I are having a barbecue this weekend for 40 people. How many hamburgers and hot dogs should we get? My husband thinks we need 60 hot dogs and 40 hamburgers. I think that’s way too much!
No kids are attending. It’s an adult barbecue.

With you - way to much. How many kids? They prefer hot dogs over hamburger. If you think everyone will eat a hamburger then yes, 40 it is, but why so many hot dogs. In any event, went to a bbq this past weekend, way to many hot dogs and given we had so many sides we could have cut the meat in half. 30-40 hamburgers 20 hot dogs would be the max I would cook.

well. just figure out maybe 3 hamburgers and two hotdogs for each person, and you have the answer.

I would say 60 and 60 to be honest…..there are probably a few people who will want more then 1 hamburger……you don’t want to run out, better to have too much. People tend to eat a lot at BBQs.

I would say 40 of each. That way each person gets 2 and if you run out of one, than they will have to accept the other. That should be plenty. Some people may only want one, or choose to just munch on small stuff. If you want extra, maybe cook a few more.

I would go with 50 of each. Not everyone will eat one or the other and maybe want seconds. You will have a little left over which is better than being short.

I wouldn’t worry about the number of hot dogs and burgers. Just make sure that you have plenty of alcohol and no one will care about the food.

Go with 60 and 60. Only cook 40 of each and look to see if anyone has not been served yet. If no one is going hungry, make the rounds to see if they are going to want more. If everyone is satisfied, freeze the rest. We have at least 40 people (including kids) at our cookouts and do about 5 dozen of each plus a couple dozen brats and chicken legs, along with the sides. Sometimes we have leftovers, sometimes not. They say you should figure half pound of meat for each person.

Better to have too much than not enough. 60 dogs and 50 burgers will be plenty. Seems like a lot of work, remember to have Fun!
